Drug trafficking results in severe penalties and includes distribution, manufacturing, transporting, selling, and possession with intent to sell, all of which result in much harsher penalties than possession.
In addition, drug crimes that involve a minor or, under California Health and Safety Code Section 11380.1 (2), are located within 1,000 feet of school are met with even stricter penalties from law enforcement. Many who are charged with such crimes are subject to multiple convictions, resulting in compounded penalties that can leave a defendant imprisoned for decades and subjected to tens of thousands of dollars in fines.
